When it comes to running an online store, the most important thing is practicing the right strategy. If you work hard, give more time but have no plans, then you will lose your investment and time.
Running an eCommerce store is not an easy job, especially in 2019 but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Which is why we contacted experts from different industries who shared their best secrets on how to improve eCommerce traffic in 2019.
Let’s check them out!

I would say my tip for increasing eCommerce store traffic in 2019 is to get involved in omnichannel selling, in other words, marketing, promoting, and selling your products on various channels that all connect to your business website. In my experience, I’ve seen more and more eCommerce software platforms highlighting their ability to sell in multiple places, from Google shopping to Amazon to Facebook and Instagram.
Many of these platforms allow you to connect your inventory and order processes directly to these various channels, giving you an opportunity to extend your reach to the different audiences who frequent each. Essentially, then, by getting your products out to as many eyes as possible in a variety of different ways, you’ll increase your exposure, and hopefully, find the specific channel that works best for you, and that way, you can devote more time and strategy to that channel specifically.
What a lot of eCommerce store owners are not doing is search engine optimization (SEO)! There is a couple of ways to improve your search presence in the eyes of Google and this is working on your product page titles and meta descriptions. This alone will help you stand out from the competition and drive more traffic to your store organically.
If you really want to go all out with SEO, then I recommend creating highly engaging content for your audience. This will attract users that have buying intent and are more likely to convert to actual customers than if you were to just use google ads to drive traffic to your store. The downside of SEO is that it’s a long term game, so if you’re looking to build a brand that has a web presence then using SEO to drive traffic is essential.

Make sure that you develop an SEO strategy that helps you connect with your customers at every stage of their buying journey. As you’re doing keyword research, group similar keywords according to the search intent they show. Typically you’ll identify intents that are top, mid and bottom of funnel. Once you have that, craft content that satisfies each search intent well, and you should be able to start capturing valuable organic traffic.
You’d need to create different types of content for different intents. For top of funnel searches, you’ll want things like blog posts and videos. For more mid-funnel searches, category page descriptions and buying guides are great. Finally, for the bottom of funnel searches, you need high-converting product descriptions to help customers complete their purchase decision.

The biggest thing I recommend for ecommerce websites, especially those that sell commodity items or dropshipping items is to create custom descriptions for your product pages. Do not use the manufacturer’s description. Create something from scratch. Also, try to get as much user-generated content as possible. From product reviews, to product questions and answers.
The more you can do to have your product page not only stand out, but be completely different from your competitors selling the same product, the better. This is especially important as more competition is coming in 2019 and the ease of using dropshippers for almost anyone.

Internal linking – if not done already or correctly means you are missing a trick. A simple but effective tactic is to go through every one of your blogs and link to the product page every time it is mentioned in the blog article. You should be aiming to hit 5+ per article if the article is 500+ words. This indicates to search engines that these are your most popular pages as it has so many links pointing to it. When people search for your product or similar then you are much more likely to show up higher on the search result pages.
For an enhanced boost, build links to the blog pages, this will power up their links to the product pages and make the pages even more prominent. Better to do it for the blog articles as they are easier to build links for than pure sales/product pages.

To increase your Ecommerce store traffic in 2019, you should be consistently reaching out to journalists, media, and bloggers in your niche for PR. Giving away a few free products, or simply a few minutes of your time in exchange for some coverage of your products and store can have a huge impact on the amount of traffic and sales you receive. According to Stacy, it is important to get your website promoted through backlinks. It is also important to understand how to pick the perfect anchor text for a particular website.

Leave Meta Descriptions Blank. When you’re optimizing products on your e-commerce website, do not populate the meta description tag. Leaving it blank forces Google to decide what to display in search results. Typically, Google will find words and phrases in your content that match those in the search query. They’ll grab a meaningful snippet and display it in search results. The impact can be powerful. The searcher recognizes his or her own words in the search result, gets a warm-fuzzy, and clicks thru to your website to learn more.

One platform that I frequently see overlooked in eCommerce is Pinterest. Pinterest is one of the highest volume drivers of traffic online yet many websites fail to optimize their content for the platform.
A simple trick to increase your eCommerce traffic is to make sure that you have at least one vertical image for each product you are selling. Vertical images do much better on Pinterest and generally will receive more views, repins, and click-throughs. Ideally, include a collage-style graphic with of a few of the product images that is 600 px wide by 900-1200px long.

If you want to increase your eCommerce store traffic, create a Google Shopping Feed and run Google Shopping Ads. This is a great way to drive a lot of traffic at a low price point. You want to look at your search terms within 2-3 days of launching your campaign to see if there are relevant searches coming through. If you see relevant searches at a low price point, you can generate a great Return on Ad Spend with your eCommerce through Google Shopping.

My tip to improve traffic to your e-commerce site is ensure you’re maximizing your SEO efforts, if you are using faceted navigation.
As a way to assist consumer selection, most e-commerce sites use faceted navigation as a way to provide better product selections and filtering.
What they might not know, however, is that they may be leaving valuable ranking search queries and keyword from Google Search.
Facet navigation can is usually implemented via client-side rendering – i.e. the page does not refresh, or the URL does not change as a user filters their desired selections.
This may mean popular product search results have no chance of ranking for their main keywords in Google search, thus limited organic traffic opportunities. An e-commerce site using faceted navigation should look at ways to structure popular product searches as individual pages that are friendly for SEO.
For example, if an online store can filter dresses by color, you want to ensure you can rank for keywords related to ‘red dresses’ in Google search. If your faceted navigation doesn’t lead to a unique URL for this purpose, you could be missing out on organic visibility.

The best way to increase eCommerce traffic is to reach out to relevant blogs and publications. I offer them the opportunity to test out various products in exchange for the chance at them liking the product and writing a piece on the company. I mainly target smaller publications. Once that publication publishes something about the eCommerce store, I use that media attention by showing it to other publications to receive more media attention.

Work with those people who influence your potential buyers. You can easily find these people on Instagram, Twitter, and other social media platforms. For instance, if you sell beauty products, you should reach out to well-known beauty bloggers or makeup artists to promote your products. The key things to consider while choosing the influencers for your brand Focus on their audience.
This will help you identify the influencers who have followers with similar interests as your target audience. Check the engagement these influencers have with their followers rather than the number of followers or likes, which can easily be bought. Select those who have a real audience, connect with their followers and have an authentic relationship with them.
