Women's Wool Blend Burgundy Cape Overcoat

My wife is hard to shop for and usually returns whatever I pick. Not this time. I ordered her usual size for our anniversary and the fit is relaxed enough that it was fine. She wore it out to dinner that same week and the waiter actually commented on it before we sat down.

Needed something to throw over a sleeveless dress for an outdoor wedding in late October. This was the answer. It looked lovely in every photo and the ties fall down the front so you can still see the neckline of the dress. Kept me warm through the ceremony and the long wait for pictures.

It's a pretty piece and the fabric feels decent for the price. I just found it less practical than I hoped. With the arm slits I can't reach for things easily, and on windy days the front blows open more than I'd like. Probably better for occasions than everyday errands. Keeping it, but it doesn't get much wear.

There's something about this cape that makes me stand up straighter. The shape flares gently and swings with each step, and the scarf ties fall right down the front so it looks styled without me doing anything. I've worn it to a gallery opening, a christening and a work dinner. Sizing is roomy, I'm usually between sizes and went smaller with no regrets. Keeps my core warm, though my arms get a little chilly on windy nights.

I have never owned anything that moves like this. It swings when I walk and the front ties hang so nicely over a dress. Took it to a friend's wedding and got asked about it all evening.

Let me be honest about warmth because I wish someone had told me. This is lovely and it holds heat around your body well, but your arms are only covered by the drape, so on properly cold days it doesn't compete with a sleeved wool coat. For autumn evenings, events and mild winter days it's perfect. I layer a fitted cardigan underneath when it dips. Elegant, swingy and I feel great in it, just set your expectations.

I wear mostly dresses, and finding outerwear that doesn't fight with a full skirt is hard. This sits over everything, from midi dresses to a fitted sheath for work. The fabric feels soft and has decent weight without being heavy. With black tights and boots it looks great, and that dark wine hue goes with nearly everything I own.

Got this for my wife's birthday after she kept sending me screenshots of it. Sizing worried me since I never know her coat size, but the cape cut is forgiving and it fit her fine. She has worn it to work most days since. She says the colour is richer than the photos, more like a good red wine.
